Day of Caring and Sharing set for May 10

March 5th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

The 27th annual United Way Day of Caring and Sharing is scheduled for Friday, May 10, 2024. Day of Caring and Sharing is a partnership between United Way of Allegany County, Let’s Beautify Cumberland! and the City of Cumberland. Sponsored by Columbia Gas of Maryland and CSX Transportation, the event brings together people from throughout the community to work on projects across the City. Hundreds of flowers will be planted, countless loads of mulch will be spread and large quantities of trash will be removed.

Volunteers will gather at Veteran’s Park on Centre Street for opening ceremonies, the pledge of allegiance and the national anthem. Refreshments will be served, and all registered volunteers will receive a t-shirt and lunch, all donated or provided by sponsors of the event. According to Terri Jessie, who coordinates the event through County United Way, the process is underway to identify projects for this year’s event. Last year, 54 projects were completed by more than 498 registered volunteers. As well as projects throughout the city, many nonprofits will also request volunteers to complete projects at their organizations.

Executive Director Michele Walker said any non-profit interested in submitting a project or businesses with volunteers interested in helping with the Day of Caring and Sharing, please email terri@cuw.org or call 301-722-2700.
