WBAL reports a sheriff's deputy from Wicomico County is dead after being gunned down in the line of duty. The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office says that Deputy First Class Glenn Hilliard, a 16-year veteran of that department, was killed while trying to catch a fugitive in Pittsville. The fugitive was wanted on multiple felony warrants in multiple jurisdictions, according to police. Police say Hilliard spotted the suspect coming out of an apartment complex and a foot pursuit ensued. Hilliard was fatally shot while attempting to apprehend the suspect. After an extensive manhunt by dozens of law enforcement officers from throughout the region, the suspect was captured and is awaiting arraignment.
