Diallo, Buckler, DeBaugh Earn Wins for Men’s Wrestling at Mountain Cat Duals

Frostburg State Men's Wrestling team took on a pair of nationally ranked squads in the Mountain Cat Duals on Saturday, falling in each match.
 
In the first matchup against the 11th-ranked hosts, junior Thierno Diallo got FSU out to a strong start at 133 lbs with a pinfall two minutes into the first round, tying the match 6-6 after an opening forfeit win for UPJ. Pitt-Johnstown would go on to take control of things quickly, winning the final eight weight classes, including five by tech falls, on their way to a 44-6 decision.

149 lbs: Jacob Ealy (UPJ) over Gage Heilbrun (FSU) Tech Fall 15-0 – UPJ leads 16-6
157 lbs: Cooper Warshel (UPJ) over Mason Buckler (FSU) Decision 8-3 – UPJ leads 19-6
165 lbs: Dillon Keane (UPJ) over Liam DeBaugh (FSU) Tech Fall 17-0 – UPJ leads 24-6
174 lbs: Anthony Salopek (UPJ) over Duncan Kammar (FSU) Maj. Decision 15-2 – UPJ leads 28-6
184 lbs: Noah Gnibus (UPJ) over Nick McCarthy (FSU) Tech Fall 19-1 – UPJ leads 33-6
197 lbs: Dakoda Rodgers (UPJ) over William Applegarth (FSU) – UPJ leads 38-6
285 lbs: Isaiah Vance (UPJ) over Gavin Bage (FSU) Fall 2:10 – UPJ wins 44-6
 
Diallo once again kicked things off for the Bobcats against No. 16 Grand Valley, earning a 9-4 decision. GVSU took the next two classes, a fall at 141 lbs and a narrow 12-10 decision at 149. Frostburg pulled off back-to-back wins of their own, with freshmen Mason Buckler (8-5) and Liam DeBaugh (4-3) both securing close decisions to bring the match score to 15-9 Lakers. In similar fashion to the first matchup, FSU couldn't find the results late on, with Grand Valley winning each of the final four weights to pull away 34-9.

165 lbs: Liam DeBaugh (FSU) over Trammel Robinson (GVSU) Decision 4-3 – GVSU leads 15-9
174 lbs: Joshua Kenny (GVSU) over Charlie Turney (FSU) Tech Fall 15-0 – GVSU leads 20-9
184 lbs: Seth Konynenbelt (GVSU) over Duncan Kammar (FSU) Tech Fall 17-0 – GVSU leads 25-9
197 lbs: Wyatt Miller (GVSU) over William Applegarth (FSU) Fall 2:41 – GVSU leads 31-9
285 lbs: Owen Hawley (GVSU) over Gavin Bage (FSU) Decision 6-3 – GVSU wins 34-9
  
Due to inclement weather in the area, the originally scheduled match against No. 9 UNC Pembroke could not be completed, ending the meet for FSU.
 
With the losses, the Bobcats drop to 6-10 on the year and will next compete in the Virginia Duals starting Friday, January 12 in Hampton, Va. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
