May 25th, 2021 by WCBC Radio

On Wednesday, May 19, 2021, Mr. Steven James, Cumberland Martins Store Manager, joined ACPS Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Jeff Blank, and ACPS Supervisor of Food and Nutrition Services, Mr. Todd Lutton, to present the school system with a donation in the amount of $18,531.32 from the Giant Feeding School Kids Program.

"We are very fortunate to have business partners such as Giant/Martins in our community," said Mr. Blank. "Our students will benefit from their generosity, and we greatly appreciate the support of Mr. James."

According to Mr. James, "At Giant/Martins, everything we do is about supporting kids and schools." This fundraiser takes place each year during the months of January and February at both the Cumberland and LaVale branches and is a combination of proceeds raised from the organization's backpack program, bonus cards, and community and store donations. "It's all about the kids," said James. "We just asked the Board of Education to use this money the best way they can to support kids." The LaVale Martins Store Manager is Dalene Bonham.

Mr. Lutton echoed Mr. James' sentiments stating, "We appreciate the generous donation from the Giant/Martins Feeding School Kids Program with the same goal in mind of supporting the students in Allegany County. The money will be used in a way to give help to the children within Allegany County Public Schools."
