Educator Shortage Act Gives Stipend

July 6th, 2023 by WCBC Radio

The Moore-Miller Administration had several pieces of landmark legislation signed into law from the 2023 legislative session.  Laws focusing on economic development, education, and veterans support were among the new laws.  One law, The Maryland Educator Shortage Reduction Act will help train, recruit, and retain educators for Maryland Schools and child care facilities and provide better behavior health services to students by recruiting and retaining mental health professionals in schools. The Act provides a $20,000 yearly stipend for eligible student teachers to address the state’s teacher shortage. To qualify for the stipend, students must be enrolled in a teacher preparatory program and commit to work two years in a high-needs school in Maryland.
