Although it won’t expedite the necessary repairs or replacement of the city’s three West Side bridges- Cumberland officials hope to at least spruce up the appearance of those structures in the coming weeks. Bridges on Cumberland, Fayette and Washington streets have been in various state’s of disrepair for several years- with the city continuing to work with CSX Transportation to see at least two of those re-opened in the next few years. In the meantime, the entry points to the bridges have become somewhat of an eyesore, and with the Day of Caring of Sharing beatification event scheduled for next month, council members believe that a focus on the bridges should be part of that effort.
