The Evergreen Heritage Center is among those experiencing cuts to the AmeriCorps program from the Trump Administration. After an 11-year partnership, Center President Janice Keene says AmeriCorps gave no warning about the cuts. The center lost all five workers who were from AmeriCorps overnight. Keene says workers through AmeriCorps enabled EHC to grow…
“From when we started with them 11 years ago 2500 students we were serving and this past year we served over 18,000 students and visitors. So, AmeriCorps and the other sister service organizations have just been pivotal to us.”
Keene said they are looking at changes projected to affect nearly half of their programs…
“If you look at capacity for us, not having the folks to provide that capacity that we do for the community you’re talking up to a forty percent impact.”
