Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident in Rawlings

On Monday November 8, 2021 at approximately 4:40 p.m. a motor vehicle collision in the area of McMullen Highway, Rawlings, MD was reported to the Allegany County Joint Communications Center. Several units from numerous volunteer fire and rescue departments, Allegany Department of Emergency Services, and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Upon arrival units found that a semi-tractor trailer was involved in a motor vehicle collision with a passenger vehicle and a pick-up truck.

The passenger Mrs. Martha L. Armstrong (95, of Rawlings, MD) of the passenger car was life flighted by Trooper 5 from the scene to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center for life threatening injuries. Mrs. Martha L. Armstrong later succumbed to her injuries and passed away.

The driver of the passenger vehicle Mr. Robert K. Armstrong (68, of Rawlings, MD) was transported by ambulance to UMPC for the treatment of serious injuries.

The driver of the semi-tractor trailer Mr. Eric J. Augustine (38, of Confluence, PA) was transported from the scene by ambulance to UMPC for the treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the pick-up truck Ms. Alicia D.  Aldridge (30, of Ft. Ashby, WV) was transported to Potomac Valley Hospital for the treatment of minor injuries.  

Rt. 220 remained closed for about 4 hours while Cumberland City Police Crash Team investigated assisted by the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office.

The following agencies responded to the scene, Maryland State Police Aviation, Potomac Fire Department (Westernport), Keyser Fire Department, Tri-Towns EMS, New Creek EMS, Keyser EMS, Cresaptown EMS, Maryland State Highway Administration, and The Allegany County Department of Emergency Services.
