Juvenile arrested for assault and firearm charges

On Thursday, May 30, 2024 at approximately 12:42 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the area of Arch Street for the report of male subject carrying a firearm.  The subject, later confirmed to be a juvenile, was located by officers at which time he fled on foot.  Officers began searching the area and located the juvenile in an alleyway.  As an officer approached him in his police vehicle, the juvenile turned around and aimed a handgun at the officer.  The juvenile then turned back around, began running, and threw the handgun into the backyard of a residence on Arch Street.  The officer began pursuing the suspect on foot.  The suspect ran into a residence in the 400 block of Grand Avenue.  The suspect later exited the residence and surrendered to the officer. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters.  The firearm was later recovered.  The suspect was transported to the Western Maryland Children Center in Hagerstown, MD.

CHARGES:  Assault-1st Degree, Assault-2nd Degree, Reckless Endangerment, Obstructing & Hindering, Fail to Obey a Reasonable & Lawful Order, Disorderly Conduct, Alter Physical Evidence, Numerous firearm charges.
