All students and personnel have been evacuated safely from Westernport Elementary.
3:30 Update:
Do not call 911 unless you need emergency rescue.
Westernport Elementary students and personnel are being evacuated to higher ground at 1 Fusner Street in Westernport.
Students and personnel at Westmar Middle, and Georges Creek Elementary are being held in place. They will be transferred to parents when it is determined to be safe.
Bruce Outreach Center is open as a shelter for the Westernport Community.
Under advisement of Emergency Services of Allegany County, there will be no transportation of students from Westmar Middle, Westernport Elementary, Georges Creek Elementary and those students from Mountain Ridge that live in those areas. Accomodations are being made for those students who are not able to be safely dismissed. They will be with school personnel until emergency services determines they are able to be transported safely.
3pm Update:
Mount Savage students may be delayed due to detours.
Route 36 has been closed by Maryland Department of Transportation from Lonaconing south.
Manhole covers are popping in the Lonaconing area – use caution walking in high waters.
MD 135 from McCoole to Westernport is closed. There are also rockslides in the area.
Minor flooding reported on Savage River Road to Bloomington.
McCoole Route 220 is under flood conditions.
Big Run State Park is under evacuation orders.
Old Beechwood Drive, Main Street and the Fire Hall in Lonaconing have been evacuated.
Westernport Elementary is being evacuated to higher ground.
St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Westernport is being set up as a shelter.
Klondike Bridge into Ocean Hill Road is compromised/under water.
