The Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a fire on Cherry Land in Friendsville. The fire was discovered by a neighbor at approximately 7:15 Thursday morning. Twelve firefighters from the Deep Creek LakeVolunteer Fire Department took 10 minutes to bring the fire under control in the wood-fram family dwelling. The estimated loss was $10,000 total for structure and contents. Two cats perished in the fire. The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
