November 21st, 2023 by WCBC Radio

On Friday, November 17, 2023, at approximately 1945 Hours, the Frostburg City Police Department responded to call from a local business for a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers learned that two juveniles had been in the business. One of the juveniles shoplifted and fled the store, leaving the other juvenile inside. As the business staff tried to confront the shoplifting suspect, the suspect became irate and disorderly before stealing more and fleeing outside. Once the suspect was outside and saw the other juvenile was still inside, the suspect brandished what appeared to a handgun at the business staff apparently to intimidate his way back into the business. The suspect then fled.

Police canvassed the area and checked multiple locations. A sheriff’s deputy eventually located the suspect who was on foot. Through investigation, including review of video surveillance footage, police found that both juveniles were involved in the theft and related unlawful activity at the store. In addition, police learned that the juvenile that remained in the store provided police with a false identity. Both juveniles were taken into police custody, parents notified, and the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services notified.

Police also conducted a search of a private residence with Allegany County Sheriff’s Deputies just outside the City limits where the apparent firearm was recovered. The apparent firearm was an airsoft-type gun that replicated a Glock handgun. For the juvenile that brandished the replica handgun, charges were forwarded to DJS for First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, and Theft Less Than $100. For the second juvenile, charges were forwarded to DJS for Conspiracy to Commit Theft, False Statement to Police Officer, Fraud Personal Identification to Avoid Prosecution, Accessory after the Fact.

Both were 14-years-old. Both were released to their parents pending further action. Frostburg City Police Department was assisted by the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies.
