April 26th, 2023 by WCBC Radio

On Monday, April 24, 2023, the Frostburg State University Police were notified that a bomb threat, directed at the Lane University Center on the campus of the University, had been posted to social media. The Lane University Center, as well as the Lewis J. Ort Library and the Gira Center, was immediately evacuated under the direction of the FSU Police and Lane Center staff.  As a precaution, a search of the building was completed by bomb detecting K-9 units from the Maryland State Police and the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. No explosive devices were found, and the building was deemed safe.   An investigation commenced immediately into the origin of the call by the University Police, with the assistance of the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I). At a result of the investigation, which included the cooperation of the social media site, the suspect was identified. The investigation revealed that the post was a prank, and there was never a threat to the safety of students or staff.  The suspect, 20 year old Thomas Charles Lenhart, an FSU student from Millersville, MD, was arrested and charged with Threat of Mass Violence. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance, posted $2500.00 bond, and was released pending his next court appeal.  Lenhart is also facing disciplinary action by FSU in accordance with the administrative policies and procedures for students.
