The Garrett County Board of Education voted to appoint Dr. Brenda McCartney to a four-year contract as the Superintendent of Schools. Dr. McCartney took on the position after Superintendent Barbara Baker retired in July of 2023. Maryland State Superintendent approval was received Friday. “I extend my best wishes to the Garrett County Board of Education and Dr. McCartney,” said Dr. Carey Wright, Interim State Superintendent of Schools. Dr. McCartney’s contract will run from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2028.
