The national average price of regular gasoline has fallen every day since September 25 for a record 106 days to $2.17 per gallon for Friday, which is the lowest average since May 8, 2009. This price is six cents less than one week ago, 49 cents less than a month ago and $1.14 below the same date last year. Maryland’s average price is $2.33 per gallon, which is eight cents lower than last week, 40 cents less than last month, and $1.11 cents per gallon lower than last year’s price on this date. Cumberland’s average price per gallon is down to $2.36. The lower gas price trend is likely to continue into 2015, with the year promising to provide much bigger savings to consumers as long as crude oil remains relatively cheap.

As an estimated 41.3 million Americans and 888,000 Marylanders hit the roads this week for the Thanksgiving holiday, motorists filled up their tanks paying the lowest gas prices for the holiday since 2009. With most travelers returning home today through Sunday, many will be paying lower gas prices than when they filled up their vehicle before their trip. The nationwide average price for a gallon of gas today is $2.79 a gallon, which is five cents lower compared to a week ago, 24 cents drop from last month, and 49 cents decline versus the price at this time a year ago. The national average has declined for 64 consecutive days. Cumberland has dipped to $2.89 a gallon. Marylanders returning home will find the average price for gas at $2.82 per gallon, which is three cents less than last week, 17 cents a gallon less than a month ago and 60 cents less than last year on this date.
