Gas prices drop

December 12th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

Gas prices are falling as Christmas approaches. Heading into the weekend prices at the pump were down four cents from a week ago, with the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded at $2.01. In Maryland the average stands at $2.04, down a nickel from last week- and in Cumberland prices dropped four cents, down to $2.07.

UPDATE:  Some gasoline prices in our area have dropped dramatically below the average, as evidenced by this Friday night photo of the marquee at Sheetz in Cresaptown.

The national average price at the pump is holding steady after several weeks of a downward slide, which resulted in the lowest gas prices for the Thanksgiving holiday since 2008. Today’s national average of $2.05 per gallon remains the same as last week’s cost but is within pennies of the multi-year low price reached this January. Maryland’s average is three cents higher than the national average at $2.08 per gallon, which also is flat from last week.  However, the state average is seven cents per gallon less than a month ago and 70 cents less than last year on this date. In Cumberland, the average price heading into the weekend stood at $2.11, down one cent from a week ago.
