Drivers nationwide and in Maryland are enjoying another week of substantial savings at the pump as prices continue their downward trend. The cost of gasoline is being pushed lower due to reduced seasonal demand, winter-blend fuel, and falling crude prices.

However, with the Trump Administration’s announcement today that the U.S. would re-impose sanctions on Iran that were lifted in 2015, under the Obama Administration, crude oil prices and subsequently gas prices could be impacted. The sanctions, which will go into effect on November 5 target the Iranian energy sector and impede Iran’s ability to sell oil.

Today’s national gas price average is $2.78, which is down six cents in the last week, down 11 cents in the last month, but 27 cents higher than this time last year.

Maryland’s gas average is 14 cents less than the national average at $2.64 per gallon. The state average is six cents lower in the last week, 18 cents less than last month, but 29 cents more than last year on this date.
