August 20th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

The summer driving season is in its final stretch and regional pump prices continue to hold steady. Drivers continue to benefit as most areas are over 40 cents per gallon less than last year, which means more pocket change for those planning summer road trips in the coming weeks.

The national average price for regular unleaded today is $2.14 per gallon, which is fractions of a penny more than one week ago, six cents less than one month ago and 52 cents less than the same date last year.

Maryland’s average price is six cents less than the nationwide price at $2.08 per gallon. The state average is a penny less than last week’s price, 10 cents less than one month ago and 45 cents per gallon lower than this time last year.

Gas prices across the Mid-Atlantic region continue to drop, and average prices in Delaware, Virginia, and New Jersey are now below $2.00 per gallon. While Maryland’s average price remains above this benchmark, gas prices under $2.00 can be found at many stations throughout the state, including the Baltimore Metro area and on the Eastern Shore, as Salisbury averages $1.94 per gallon. Gasoline costs in Washington, D.C. ($2.41), and Pennsylvania ($2.27) are the most expensive in the region, though average gallon prices in these regions remain substantially cheaper than a year ago.

The national average is $2.14 per gallon, which is four cents less than last week, 15 cents less than a month ago and 55 cents per gallon less than last year on this date.

Maryland’s average is two cents less than the nationwide price at $2.12 per gallon. The state average is three cents less than last week’s price, 16 cents less than a month ago and 54 cents per gallon lower than this time last year.
