November 29th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

On Thursday, November 28, 2024, Officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 900 Block of Gay Street for the report of an active disturbance. Upon arrival, they learned that the suspect, Thomas Wiggington, had been involved in several other incidents the previous night. Officers observed Wiggington operating a vehicle with its four-way flashers activated and traveling approximately five miles per hour. Officers activated their emergency equipment to affect a traffic stop on the vehicle. Wiggington was observed throwing his hands out the window, gesturing at Officers. Wiggington continued driving, failing to curb his vehicle at Officers' request. While driving, Wiggington swerved erratically, nearly striking various vehicles and structures. Wiggington continued driving on Willison Place before entering the parking lot of a business on Park Street. While in the parking lot, Wiggington refused to obey Officers' orders to stop the vehicle and began insulting them. Officers were able to stop Wiggington and remove him from the vehicle where he was placed under arrest. During the investigation, it was learned that Wigginton was operating the vehicle while under the influence of an unknown, impairing substance. Wiggington was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center where he was held pending an appearance in front of a District Court Judge.
