Gov. Moore Honors Fallen Service Members on Memorial Day

May 28th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

Governor Wes Moore today delivered remarks at the 57th annual Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens Memorial Day ceremony. The ceremony brought together the community to express gratitude and respect to the fallen service members who devoted their lives to serving our country.

“Today, we honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we cherish. Our state and our country are stronger because of their service” said Gov. Moore. “Today, we also lift up the families of the fallen, who are just as much a part of the American story as those who have worn the uniform of our country. On Memorial Day – and every day – must remember those we've lost, embrace those they loved, and work together to carry forward the torch of service."

At the service, Governor Moore was joined by 29th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade Commander Colonel Louis P. Hawkins, Maryland Gold Star families, community members, and local veterans. The service ended with the 9/11 rolling memorial, a wreath laying ceremony, a 21-gun salute, and the singing of Stars and Stripes Forever.  Traditionally, the annual ceremony also honors an organization that supports military members. This year, Wellspring of Life Farm was recognized for their contributions providing equine and canine therapy to active-duty military, veterans, and first responders.
