WBAL reports Gov. Larry Hogan conceded Friday that the pause in the use of Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine makes his earlier prediction that Maryland would reapproach normalcy by Memorial Day grow hazier by the day.
"We are not getting the vaccines that they promised us… so I think it's going to be very difficult not to push that back," Hogan said, speaking after a tour of a new mass-vaccination site in Annapolis.
Use of the vaccine was halted earlier this week while federal officials probe extremely rare cases of blood clots associated with the vaccine. The clots cannot be resolved by normal treatment, including the anticoagulant heparin.
The revelation has no bearing on the vaccine's effectiveness. The pause, however, is hindering Maryland's vaccination efforts. Over the next few weeks, the state will miss out on some 500,000 doses of the one-dose vaccine, Hogan said.
