March 16th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Times News reports a police pursuit from Wiley Ford to Ridgeley reaching speeds up to 90 miles per hour along Alternate Route 28 ended late Sunday when the fleeing suspect struck a parked vehicle on Bridge Street and then ran from the scene. West Virginia State Police said a traffic stop was initiated on the  vehicle on Route 28 in Wiley Ford just after 11 p.m., when the driver drove away at a high rate of speed. State police pursued the vehicle from Wiley Ford onto Alternate Route 28 where speeds in the pursuit reached 90 miles per hour. The pursuit extended into the town of Ridgeley on side streets before the driver traveled onto Bridge Street where his vehicle became airborne and then struck and disabled a parked vehicle. The driver, Eric Russell Mellott, 27, of Springfield, fled on foot. Two passengers in the Mellott vehicle — a 2004 Chevy Malibu — were not injured and were not charged with any offenses. Mellott, who apparently was not injured, was arrested without incident on the Blue Bridge when he was confronted by West Virginia State Police with assistance of the Cumberland Police Department. He was charged with the felony offense of recklessly fleeing. Late Monday morning, Mellott was jailed at the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail in Augusta awaiting a hearing before a Mineral County magistrate.
