On Friday July 22^nd, 2016 the Cumberland City Police Department served an arrest warrant on David Howard Ambrose of Cumberland.  The warrant was the result of a hit and run accident that was reported back on June 9^th, 2016, where Ambrose collided with another vehicle on Valley Street and failed to remain at the scene or notify the police.  He later tried to file a complaint with the Cumberland City Police claiming that he was a victim of a destruction of property incident and told police that his vehicle had been damaged.  The officer handling the hit and run investigation was able to determine that the damage to Ambrose’s vehicle was the result of the hit and run accident and not a DOP as he claimed. 

Ambrose was taken before the District Court Commissioner for a bond review and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on a $4,500 bond.

 

Arrested:  David Howard Ambrose, age: 56, Cumberland, MD.

Charges: Driver fail to notify police of accident, knowingly giving false accident report information, failure of driver to stop after damage to property, disorderly conduct, obstructing and hindering, false statement, and disturbing the peace loud noise.

Hit and Run

On Sunday, February 5, 2012 at approximately 2:44 p.m., the Cumberland City Police Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a single vehicle which struck a house on the corner of Tilghman Street and Cumberland Street.  Upon the officers arrival the vehicle was still resting against the residence.  The vehicle sustained heavy damage to the front end.  The house sustained a broken ground floor window which led to the basement.  The residence was found to be vacant and unoccupied.  The vehicle was unattended and the operator and a passenger had fled the scene.  A witness was contacted and advised the two subjects fled after the crash and ran down Tilghman Street toward Fayette Street.  A description of both subjects was provided to responding units at which time the operator was located a short distance away.  The passenger walked back to the scene and spoke with officers.  The operator, Cherrie Pearlanne Mulkey was arrested and transported to Police Headquarters.  Mulkey was then issued six traffic citations related to the crash and released from Police Headquarters pending trail.  Cumberland Fire Department responded and checked Mulkey at which time she refused treatment.  The Cumberland Fire Department also cleaned up fluids which were leaking from the vehicle.

1. Unauthorized use and display of registration plates.
2. Driving without a license.
3. Negligent driving.
4. Driving uninsured vehicle.
5. Failure of vehicle driver to stop after unattended property damage accident.
6. Failure of vehicle driver to furnish written identification information in unattended damaged property
