According to the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.n inmate of the Western Correctional Institution died after he was found unresponsive in a kitchen bathroom of the maximum security prison early Tuesday. The 32-year-old inmate, whose identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin, was discovered at about 2:15 a.m.
DPSCS spokesman Gerard Shields said no foul play was suspected and the matter was being investigated by agency personnel. Cause of death will be determined by the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Correctional officers administered CPR in an attempt to revive the inmate, who was serving a 40-year sentence for murder and robbery, Shields said.
Cresaptown Volunteer Fire Department ambulance was dispatched to the prison at 13800 McMullen Highway at 2:33 a.m. for a reported hanging, according to 911 radio communications.

A 30-year-old inmate was found dead this morning in his cell at Western Correctional Institution in Cumberland, Maryland. Investigators are probing the inmate death as a possible homicide.
The victim was found unresponsive in his cell by correctional officers. The cellmate of the victim is being questioned regarding the death. The deceased was serving 9 years on drug charges and has been in prison since 2010. The identity of the victim is not being released until next of kin have been notified.
State law requires possible homicides in correctional facilities to be investigated by the Maryland State Police. Detectives from the DPSCS Internal Investigation Division have secured the scene and are working with State Police homicide investigators on the case. No further information is available at this time.
