Governor Jim Justice announced abortion policy has been added to the call for the legislative special session that got underway Monday, although the governor did not yet provide a bill or state specific policies to be considered. West Virginia’s criminal abortion statute dates back to the 1800s and is the current subject of a court battle. The U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision that rolled back national abortion rights sent the issue to state governments.
