Labor Secretary Answers Critics of Hogan Decision to End Extra Jobless Benefits

More than a week after Governor Larry Hogan made the controversial decision to cut off enhanced unemployment benefits for Marylanders effective July 3rd, the criticisms are continuing and growing louder. Maryland’s Secretary of Labor Tiffany Robinson appeared this week before the House Economic Matters Committee and answered a number of unemployment-related questions.  During the hearing there was a clear divide in political ideology- with Democratic lawmakers critical of the Governor’s decision to end federal benefits two months early- while Republicans applauded the decision.  While emphasizing that the governor did not make the decision in a “vacuum”- when challenged by lawmakers, Robinson refused to play politics with the issue…
