More than a week after Governor Larry Hogan made the controversial decision to cut off enhanced unemployment benefits for Marylanders effective July 3rd, the criticisms are continuing and growing louder. Maryland’s Secretary of Labor Tiffany Robinson appeared this week before the House Economic Matters Committee and answered a number of unemployment-related questions. During the hearing there was a clear divide in political ideology- with Democratic lawmakers critical of the Governor’s decision to end federal benefits two months early- while Republicans applauded the decision. Hogan has not held a press conference since making the announcement but had made several public appearances. When asked by reporters about his decision in the face of the wave of criticism, Hogan said he simply could no longer stand by and watch businesses struggle to stay open due to a lack of employees…
