Gas prices continue to drop in most parts of the country due to abundant fuel supplies and declining crude oil costs.Below $2.00 per gallon gas can be found in many states, including Maryland.
The national average for regular, unleaded gasoline has fallen to $2.18 per gallon and sits at the lowest mark for this time of year since 2004.
Maryland’s average price remains above the $2.00 per gallon benchmark at $2.15; however, gas prices under $2.00 per gallon can be found at many stations throughout the state, particularly on the Eastern Shore with the Salisbury metro area averaging $1.95 per gallon. Today’s sate average is four cents lower than last week’s price, 15 cents less than last month, and 56 cents per gallon cheaper than last year on this date.

There is a good chance that average U.S. gas prices will drop soon due to stabilizing crude oil costs and as refineries complete seasonal maintenance, which would result in the cheapest summertime gas prices since 2009. Friday’s national gas price average for regular gasoline is $2.76, two cents per gallon higher than one week ago and 13 cents more per gallon than one month ago. However, the national average is significantly lower than last year on this date by 90 cents per gallon. Maryland’s average price at the pump is four cents lower than the national average at $2.72 per gallon. The state average is two cents higher than a week ago and 11 cents higher than last month’s price, but 93 cents cheaper compared to a year ago. Cumberland at $2.68 is actually down three cents from a week ago, and down more then a dollar from this time last year.
