Local basketball legend Steve Vandenberg has passed away. Vandenberg led Allegany High School to state championships in 1963 and 1964. After graduating in 1965 he played at Duke University, then for a short while with the Detroit Pistons in the NBA before playing internationally. After his playing career Vandenberg worked in local media. His passing, just after midnight Tuesday morning, was announced on social media by family members. Funeral arrangements are not yet complete. Vandenberg was 75.
