Maryland Democrats Call for Rep. Harris’ Resignation; Republican Nearly Started Fight on House Floor

January 7th, 2021 by WCBC Radio

WBAL reports the Maryland Democratic Party on Thursday called for the resignation of Republican Rep. Andy Harris, contending he shared blame with President Donald Trump for inciting Wednesday's riot at the U.S. Capitol.

“For months, President Donald Trump and Representative Andy Harris have sought to undermine the will of voters across Maryland and our nation. They have made baseless claimsfiled frivolous lawsuits, and attempted to overturn certified state results through congressional action," party Chair Yvette Lewis said in a statement. “Yet, even after repeated result certification and dismissal by even the most conservative of judges, Representative Harris continued to spout the President’s lies."

Harris was one of dozens of Republican House members who, even after protesters stormed the Capitol, voted in favor of objections to electoral returns.

In a statement Thursday, Harris said he had no plans to resign and equated Republican concerns, based on unproven allegations of voter fraud espoused by Trump, to objections raised by Democrats during the electoral count in 2017.
