MARYLAND STATE POLICE ARREST MAN FOR IMPAIRED DRIVING AFTER CRASHING INTO MOPED IN WASHINGTON COUNTY

Maryland State Police arrested a man on impaired driving charges after a crash in which a moped was struck this evening in Washington County.

The suspect, Joseph Donald Guessford III, 43, of Hagerstown, Maryland is charged with impaired driving and numerous traffic charges to include leaving the scene of personal injury collision.. He was transported to the Maryland State Police Hagerstown Barrack for processing before being released to the Washington County Detention Center. Additional charges are pending in the case.

At about 9:14 p.m., the Hagerstown Barrack was notified of collision on westbound RT 40 west of Garland Groh. Troopers arrived on the scene to find two deceased victims, Nicole Marie Cain, 20, and Evan Alexander Cain, 20 of Hagerstown. According to a preliminary investigation, the moped was struck by a maroon 2000 Ford pickup, driven by Guessford.

All lanes of westbound RT 40 west of Garland Groh remain closed temporarily for reconstruction of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
