Maryland’s lone Republican Congressman Not in Favor of Gas Tax Holiday

Congressman Andy Harris said the pause on the gas tax might not be a good thing for Maryland. On Thursday, Gov. Larry Hogan and State House officials agreed on legislation to provide a one-month gas tax holiday. Harris told WBAL that the newly approved gas tax holiday in Maryland is going to negatively impact infrastructure in the state. "It would be very temporary, it doesn't solve the real problem," Harris said, adding the gas tax is used to maintain roads and bridges.

Harris said the real problem is that "this administration has handcuffed our fossil fuel energy production in this country."

Suspending the gas tax for 30 days could reportedly save drivers about 37 cents per gallon, at a cost of $100 to the state
