October 12th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Republicans in the Maryland Senate elected new leadership over the weekend.

The Senate GOP Caucus elected Sen. Bryan Simonaire, of Anne Arundel County, as minority leader. The caucus also elected Sen. Michael Hough as minority whip.

Simonaire and Hough succeeded Baltimore and Harford County Sen. J.B. Jennings and Upper Eastern Shore Sen. Steve Hershey. Both held their leadership posts for six years and decided not to run for re-election to their leadership posts.

The Maryland General Assembly is controlled by Democrats, who hold a 32-15 advantage in the 47-member state Senate.
