March 12th, 2023 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will conduct a project to improve drainage and the driving surface of the US 40 (National Pike) bridge over westbound I-70 (Exit 9) in Indian Springs this week, Monday through Friday, March 13-17, weather permitting. To safely perform the work and expedite the repairs, the bridge will be closed daily during non-peak hours, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. No lane closures will occur on I-70.

Bridge Will Close 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, March 13-17; Motorists Encouraged to Allow Extra Drive Time During Project

During the daytime closure, motorists will be detoured to US 40 to I-70, then MD 56 (Big Pool Road) and back to I-70. Motorists should allow additional drive time during the repair and maintenance work. State Highway Administration contractor Concrete General Inc., of Gaithersburg, will use barrels, cones and signs to guide motorists safely through the work zone.

Drivers are asked to slow down through the work zone for the safety of all drivers and the crews working to improve state roadways. The State Highway Administration understands the closures will inconvenience some travelers and asks all motorists to please stay alert and be patient as you travel through the work zone.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance. For a list of all major State Highway Administration projects, go to the project portal. Visit the homepage at roads.maryland.gov. For a look at real-time traffic conditions, go to md511.maryland.gov.
