Monday Meeting to Resolve Dispute Between City and Allegany Medical Marijuana

It’s an issue that has already involved law enforcement, attorneys, city officials and the Army Corps of Engineers-  but the hope is it can be resolved during a Monday meeting. The City of Cumberland last week responded to an ongoing dispute with Allegany Medical Marijuana on Beall Street by re-installing a guardrail, blocking an area in which the owner, George Merling, had cut into the existing floodwall to construct a drive-thru for the business. Merling joined WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” to discuss the matter. Merling says the bottom line is that Mayor Ray Morriss philosophically opposes legalized marijuana and that this has become a personal vendetta on the part of the mayor…

Morriss told WCBC News the Army Corps of Engineers previously notified the city Merling had directed workers to cut into the flood wall, thereby weakening the strength of the structure. Morriss said Merling had been warned about the situation on several occasions…
