The Washington Street bridge, which spans CSX railroad tracks, has been closed for several years and continues to serve as a point of frustration for residents as well as for motorists who travel the West Side. Although it is clearly a city of Cumberland problem- the Allegany County Commissioners have been actively involved in trying to find a solution. In April, commissioners voted unanimously to permit county attorney Lee Beeman to file an official complaint against CSX with the National Surface Transportation Board.
