Mountain State Needs Blood Donors

January 24th, 2024 by WCBC Radio

The West Virginia Department of Health is encouraging residents to consider blood donation during National Blood Donor Month.  Winter is a challenging time for the blood supply due to lower turnout, severe weather, as well as colds and flu. Erica Mani of the Red Cross Central Appalachia Region, says blood donors have dropped by 40% over the last 20 years and that can have a huge impact on available blood products in emergency situations.  Donors can make an appointment at redcrossblood.org.
