On Saturday, April 6th, 2024, the Cumberland City Police responded to the 1000 block of Myrtle St for the report of an assault in progress in the street. Upon arrival, officers observed a male subject attempting to leave the area on foot. When stopped, he advised he had only been in a verbal altercation with a female who had already left the scene. A short time later, the female victim was able to contact police by awakening a nearby neighbor for help. The victim advised she had been choked by the male subject in the street after a verbal altercation at a nearby home. Contact was also made with a witness to the assault who confirmed the victim’s statements. As a result, Demond Arthur Scott Jr, 36, of Cumberland MD was placed under arrest. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held on $2,500 bond.
