N. Mechanic St traffic stop leads to CDS Arrest and numerous equipment violations

On Sunday, April 23rd, 2023, an officer with the Cumberland City Police conducted a traffic stop in the area of N. Mechanic St for numerous equipment violations. During the course of the stop, a police K9 was utilized to conduct a free air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle which alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. During a subsequent search, an amount of suspected fentanyl was located on a female passenger in the vehicle. It was also learned that the female had given officers a false name upon initial contact. The female was properly identified as Jessica Ann Hamilton, 35, of Cumberland MD. Hamilton had given a false name due to having an active PA Arrest Warrant for numerous traffic charges including Accident causing death/injury, Driving without a License, and Driving while Impaired. She was taken before the District Court Commissioner for her Initial Appearance where she was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. She is currently awaiting extradition to PA.
