New Guidelines for Screening Breast Cancer

October 13th, 2023 by WCBC Radio

Dr. Blanche Mavromatis, Oncologist with UPMC Western Maryland, spoke recently on WCBC about the importance of screening for breast cancer in women.  She said new guidelines have been instituted that screenings should be now be started at age 40 instead of 50 and be done every other year unless there are health concerns that would warrant yearly exams.  High risk women or those with dense breast tissue can also access additional testing if needed.
