Juneteenth Memory March held Saturday, June 17th
The Juneteenth Memory march will be held this Saturday, June 17th, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Due to the number of citizens attending the Memory march, some changes to the traffic pattern will be implemented to ensure the safety of the citizens and at the same time provide motorists with access around the march to prevent any back-ups or delays. A change in the traffic routes listed below around the downtown area will be in effect one hour prior to the start of the march and will last until the conclusion of the march. Update – Traffic Alert – Barrelville Road
UPDATE – The road is now open to traffic. One person was airlifted from the scene. Emergency services are responding to a 2-vehicle accident at Barrelville Road in Mount Savage that occured at approximately 12:15pm. The roadway will be shut down on Route 36 in the area of the accident. Please use caution when driving through the area.

ARREST WARRANT SERVED
On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Collin Taylor, 17. The warrant was issued as the result of an incident that occurred on May 18, 2023. On this date at approximately 3:15 AM, police responded to a residence in the 600 block of Bedford Street for an assault. Officers arrived and contacted the alleged victim who reported that he was chased down by Taylor who then struck in the back of the head with a wooden post. VIOLATION OF PEACE ORDER ARREST
On Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at approximately 9:23 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the first block of Grand Avenue for a subject violating a peace order. Police arrived on scene and contacted the resident who explained that she has a final peace order against Jason Winfield. She reported that Winfield was on her property earlier, but left prior to police arrival. Ryan Shaffer Leaving Cumberland Airport Position
The Greater Cumberland Regional Airport is losing its manager by the end of the month. Ryan Shaffer has been the Airport Manager since 2012 and is leaving to take another position elsewhere as a pilot. The Potomac Highlands Airport Authority has already started the search for a replacement. Under Shaffer’s tenure, the airport has undergone extensive renovations and improvements, the most recent being improvements to the runway. The Maryland Attorney General’s office states that one in five senior citizens have been the victims of fraud, losing $2.9 billion dollars a year to identity thieves.
