Cumberland Man Arrested for Burglary
On September 23, 2022 Officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence on Wempe Drive, Cumberland Maryland for a report of a Breaking and Entering. Upon arrival Officers made contact with two subjects. During the investigation both subjects admitted to entering the residence without permission. Charges are pending on one suspect. $12 Million for Firefighters in Western Maryland announced
U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Congressmen David Trone and Jamie B. Raskin (all D-Md.) announced $12,108,037.50 in federal funding for Maryland firefighters and first responders in Frederick, Allegany, and Washington Counties. LaVale Library Reopens to Public
The LaVale Library at 815 National Highway is officially welcoming back the public this weekend to mark the official reopening of the branch after a nearly two-year renovation and expansion. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held late Friday afternoon featuring remarks from a number of state and local officials. Former President Donald Trump is going to help raise money for Dan Cox, Maryland's Republican candidate for governor who lags behind Democratic nominee Wes Moore both in the polls and in fundraising. Trump will hold a fundraiser for Cox next month at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. The 26th annual Western Maryland Health System Foundation Golf Classic was held in mid-September at the Cumberland Country Club. Thanks to community-wide sponsorship of the event, the tournament raised $120,000 to support patients in need of special assistance at UPMC Western Maryland. Judge rules Maryland boards of elections can count mail-in ballots before Election Day
A judge ruled Friday afternoon that Maryland boards of elections can start counting mail-in ballots before Election Day. The Maryland State Board of Elections filed an emergency petition to ask a judge to let local boards of election begin canvassing mail-in ballots in October instead of after the Nov. 8 election as mandated by state law. Maryland announces settlement with Kushner-owned company
A property management company owned by the family of former President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, has agreed to pay a $3.25 million civil penalty and restitution to settle a 2019 lawsuit in Maryland over allegations of charging tenants illegal fees and failing to maintain properties, Attorney General Brian Frosh announced Friday. North Mechanic Street Update
The City of Cumberland Engineering Department, on behalf of Belt Construction, would like to notify the public that North Mechanic Street will continue to be closed from Eutaw Place to Queen City Drive until approximately 5pm, Friday, to allow the contractor to repair a collapsed 18” sewer main.
