Deadline to apply for Senator George Edwards Legacy Fund is today
Today is the deadline to apply for a grant from the newly established Senator George Edwards Legacy Fund program. The fund was established by the Maryland General Assembly in 2022 by allocating $50 million for economic development in Allegany, Garrett and Washington counties. Allocations include $20 million for 2023 followed by $10 million per year for three additional years. Officials began accepting applications in mid-December for the funding, which focuses on two categories — infrastructure improvements and business development. West Virginia advances school mandate on ‘In God We Trust’
Public schools in West Virginia may soon be required to display the phrase “In God We Trust” in every building if a bill passed by the state Senate on Monday becomes law. WBAL reports that almost eight years after the police in-custody death of Freddie Gray in Baltimore, leaders in Maryland expressed outrage over the fatal beating of a Black man by police during a traffic stop in Tennessee. "Enough is enough and I'm tired of it," said Ryan Coleman, president of the Randallstown branch of the NAACP. Coleman watched the videos released Friday night by the city of Memphis, showing Tyre Nichols' interaction with police there.
