DelFest 2023 Lineup coming together
Event organizers have announced that St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Sierra Ferrell, The California Honeydrops and Peter Rowan will be among the artists appearing at the 2023 DelFest. The four-day event will feature more than 30 performers, including daily shows from the Del McCoury Band. Additional acts will be added in the weeks leading up to the Memorial Day weekend event. One of the top bluegrass and Americana music events in the country, DelFest is held at the the Allegany County Fairgrounds in Cumberland. The dates for this year’s festival are May 25-28.
Job Numbers on the Rise in Maryland
Maryland added thousands of more jobs for the month of November. U.S. Labor Department data shows Maryland's total jobs increased last month by 1,400. Leisure and hospitality saw the highest amount of growth, followed by the financial activities, mining and logging sectors, to name a few, with an increase of 2,200. Manufacturing, education and health services saw declines. The state's unemployment rate also fell two-tenths-of-one percent to 4.3% in November.
New Attorney General to take over Archdiocese case if its not resolved before he takes office
WBAL reports the man who becomes Maryland's new attorney general next month is weighing in on the possible release of a report detailing sexual abuse allegations in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Attorney General-elect Anthony Brown said he has been monitoring efforts to release the report which names more than 100 priests accused of abuse and more than 600 victims dating back 80 years. Since it is based on grand jury testimony, current Attorney General Brian Frosh has asked a court to release the report. Maryland-based nonprofit prepares for arrival of migrants
WTOP reports a nonprofit group based in Maryland said it is preparing for the arrival of migrants to the D.C. region following a recent wave of them crossing the U.S.-Mexico border near El Paso, Texas. Van Hollen Secures Maryland Priorities in Defense Bill
U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) voted to pass the fiscal year 2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) in the Senate, which included critical investments in Maryland military installations and key legislative priorities that the Senator fought for, as well as a 4.6 percent pay raise for military and Department of Defense (DoD) civilian employees. Lowest Gas Prices Since October 2021, A Holiday Gift To The More Than 2 Million Marylanders
‘Twas nine days before Christmas and all through the state, bags were packed, batteries checked as holiday travel adventures await. AAA Mid-Atlantic estimates that more than 2.2 million Marylanders will travel 50 miles or more away from home over the end-of-year holiday travel period. The number of overall travelers is essentially flat compared to last year, with just a one percent increase. Gov. Justice issues proclamations declaring extended half-day holidays
Gov. Jim Justice has issued two proclamations, declaring Friday, Dec. 23, 2022, and Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, as half-day state holidays for public employees. “In recognition of the hard work accomplished by the public employees of this State throughout the past year, and in acknowledgement of the holiday season, it is fitting and proper that the public employees of this State be given this additional time off to spend an extended and enjoyable holiday with their loved ones,” Gov.
