City Woman Arrested For Alleged False Report

On April 23rd, 2022 an officer of the Cumberland Police Department served a Criminal Summons on Janelle Lucinda Keating. The Criminal Summons was issued by the District Court stemming from an incident on April 14th, 2022. During the incident an officer of the Cumberland Police Department responded for the report of an assault. The officer spoke with Keating who advised that she had been assault at a residence in the 100 block of Arch Street. Failure To Appear Leads to Arrest

On April 23rd, 2022 officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Robert Christopher Cain. The Arrest Warrant was issued by the District Court when he failed to appear for his trial on April 14th, 2022. The Arrest Warrant stemmed from an incident on August 4th, 2021. During the incident an Officer of the Cumberland Police Department conducted a foot patrol on Canal Street when they observed a male with open containers of alcohol. Walk a Mile for Greenway Today

The Cumberland City Police Department is requesting motorists to use caution in the area of Fort Hill High School and the Constitution Park today between the hours of 7:00am-11:00am.  The annual Walk a Mile for Greenway will take place on this date starting in front of Greenway Avenue Stadium.  Once the event starts, participants will follow a designated route around the school, into the Constitution Park, and then back to Greenway Avenue Stadium following the same route in reverse.   Officers will be at various intersections to control the flow of traffic.  

Police Make Drug Arrests

On Friday officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Jessica Tallman. The Arrest Warrant was issued by the Circuit Court when Tallman failed to appear for her trial on April 19th, 2022 for the initial charge of neglect of a minor. Tallman was placed under arrest and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center. Once at the Allegany County Detention Center two separate controlled dangerous substances were located. COVID-19 Numbers Ticking upward in Allegany County

The Maryland Department of Health reports that COVID-19 cases are ticking upward in Maryland.  In Allegany County, the case rate rose from 3.65 cases per 100,000 people to 7.1 per 100,000 over the past week, with 35 new cases identified since April 15.    Although the CDC’s COVID-19 Community Level for Allegany and all other Maryland jurisdictions is still classified as “low,” numbers are slowly trending upward.   The health department continues to offer COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters to the public each Wednesday.  Youth vaccines (ages 5 to 11) are given from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on the main floor of…

Hogan signs new law raising minimum marriage age in Maryland

WTOP reports Governor Larry Hogan signed more than 100 pieces of legislation into law Thursday, including raising the legal age to marry in Maryland. The new law raising Maryland’s minimum marriage age from 15 to 17, and gives underage brides and grooms extra hoops to jump through before they can tie the knot. Seventeen-year-olds will only be allowed to marry if they have the permission of each living parent, guardian or legal custodian. Without the permission, the minor can petition the court with evidence that they are self-sufficient, but he or she would also have to participate in a hearing…

Va. lawmaker working on Commanders bill now says it shouldn’t be a priority

There is fresh skepticism coming from Virginia’s General Assembly related to efforts to lure the Washington Commanders to the state as the team looks for a new stadium location. WTOP reports a six-member committee, made up of three senators and three delegates, is working on legislation that would pave the way for a new stadium, but one of the committee members said he now has concerns about allegations the team is facing. “Our job is to get to the bottom of any questions that could be lingering out there before moving forward,” said Democratic Del. Trone Announces Over $8 Million to Lower Energy Costs for Marylanders

Congressman David Trone announced that Maryland will receive $8,090,410 in federal funds to bring down heating and cooling costs for working families. Chesapeake Bay Bridge expansion in the works

WBAL reports there could soon be a third span for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. The feds have given the green light to the state's plan to build it right next to the current bridge.  There was talk of moving it toward Crofton and Easton, but a federal impact study says moving it next to the current bridge would better reduce traffic.  Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman says he prefers a plan that sends traffic to other areas of the county.
