On Monday, April 11, 2022 the Cumberland Police Department served two bench warrants on Joshua Buzzard. The warrants were issued as a result of Buzzard failing to appear for his court cases. In one case, he was originally charged with Theft $100 to under $1500 and in the other case, he was originally charged with Malicious Destruction Property less than $1000. Buzzard was released on his personal recognizance. Two Historic Lights Donated to Giarritta Park
As you travel through downtown Cumberland especially over by City Hall be sure to check out Giarritta park. UPMC Western Maryland donated two lights that at one time graced the entrance of Allegany Hospital on Decatur Street. Let's Beautify Cumberland on Friday along with City street department workers Jason and Brandon moved the historic lights to the park on North Center Street. Two Family Downtown Events Scheduled This Weekend
Downtown Cumberland has two family friendly events this Saturday April 16th just in time for Easter. Easter Bunny will be at the McCoury stage from 11:00am till 1:00pm to visit with children and pose for photos. The first 300 children will receive an Easter goodies bag. Chalk it up to Civility, a community collaboration will kick off this Saturday at 10:30am at the McCurry stage of Baltimore Street. Hogan Disappointed in Lack of Extending Gas Tax Suspension

Unless there is a special session, the legislative careers of District 1 Senator George Edwards and Delegate Wendell Beitzel ended at midnight last night with the conclusion of the 2022 session of the Maryland General Assembly. Cumberland Police Announce Saturday Street Closures
The Cumberland City Police Department would like to announce the following street closures and parking restrictions that will take place for the family-friendly events in the downtown area on Saturday, April 16, 2022. City Police Serve Arrest Warrant
On April 10th, 2022 officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on George Lester Harman Jr. The warrant is related to an assault incident that occurred in the area of Pulaski Street on April 10th, 2022. During that incident the victim reported that Harman had choked them. Officers observed visible injuries, consistent with the victim’s statement. The victim was transported to UPMC for further evaluation. Based upon the officer’s investigation, an application for charges against Harman was completed and an arrest warrant was issued by District Court. Morriss Comments on Expanding Sports Betting in City Zones
With fantasy sports betting expanding in Maryland- the Cumberland Mayor and City Council has taken action that will define the activity as a permitted use in all city zones other than residential. Local Library System Sees Cut in Funding
Maryland’s fiscal picture is as healthy as it has been in recent memory- leaving Allegany County officials perplexed as to why $21,000 in funding was cut from the local library system. The loss of funds combined with some staffing issues has led to speculation that libraries in the Georges Creek area may see a reduction in hours of operation.
