Maryland lawmakers are taking aim at price-gouging with a new bill to address a long-standing consumer complaint and fill a gap in state law. For the 7-day period of January 28-February 3, 2022, there were no schools that met the definition of a School Wide Outbreak of COVID-19. George's Creek Elementary School, South Penn Elementary School, Westmar Middle School, and Allegany High School each had cohorts that met the definition of a cohort outbreak. ACPS had 11 staff members and 126 students reported as positive for COVID-19 during this time. Descendant of omicron variant detected in West Virginia
West Virginia has identified its first two cases of a descendant of the omicron variant of the coronavirus, Gov. Jim Justice said Friday. The variant, which scientists call BA.2, was detected in COVID-19 patients in Berkeley and Ohio counties, Justice said at a briefing on the virus. Two Arrested in Large Drug Seizure After Traffic Stop
On Thursday, February 3, 2022 an officer with the Cumberland Police Department was on patrol when he observed a vehicle commit a traffic infraction. When he stopped the vehicle and contacted the two occupants he observed several indicators of criminal behavior. The officer requested a K9 to conduct a free air sniff of the vehicle. The K9 alerted to the presence of a controlled dangerous substance in the vehicle and a probable cause search was conducted. On Thursday, February 3, 2022 officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 300 block of Fayette St for a report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers spoke to a male and female in the residence. The male advised that he had been assaulted by Melissa Marie Cooper, age 25 of Cumberland MD. On Thursday, February 3, 2022 officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence on Crescent Place for a report of an assault. Upon arrival officers spoke with the male victim who advised that he had been in an argument with a female who resided at the same residence.
