West Virginia Couple Nabbed on Interstate 68

Two residents of Salem, West Virginia were arrested Saturday afternoon after a traffic stop on Interstate 68 by Maryland State Police. Troopers were on the lookout for a possible DUI and made the stop near Pigs Ear Road in Garrett County. 34 year old Lisa Bonnell failed field sobriety tests and charged, while her front seat passenger, 38 year old Christopher Bonnell was found to be in possession of two guns, marijuana and other drugs and drug paraphernalia. ​The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of August 13, 2021, there have been 3,207,734 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 171,950 total cases and 2,976 deaths.    DHHR has confirmed the death of a 62-year old female from Raleigh County.     “We are deeply saddened by this news, a loss to both the family and our state, and extend our deepest sympathies,” said Bill J. Firearms arrest Barton. MD

On Friday, August 13th, 2021, deputies with the Allegany County Sheriffs Office responded to the 18000blk of Latrobe Street, Barton, MD for an unknown emergency. A 911 call had been received by the Joint Communications Center from a subject requesting help before promptly disconnecting the call. Deputies arrived on the scene a short time later locating an ongoing argument inside a home.   An investigation into activites at the residence lead to a search and seizure warrant being obtained. ACM, FSU will Require Masks

Starting Aug. 16, Allegany College of Maryland will require masks to be worn indoors at all ACM locations.The college is hosting on-site vaccination clinics and offering incentive programs for vaccinated students, including a chance to win $500. Frostburg State University requires masks to be worn indoors, and students and staff to upload proof of being vaccinated against COVID-19, or apply for an exemption to be allowed to return to campus. Exempted individuals will be required to receive COVID-19 antigen testing at least weekly starting Aug. 30.

Race Street Disturance leads to Drug Arrest

The Cumberland City Police Department responded to the 100 block of Race St for the report of a loud noise disturbance. Upon arrival, officers contacted the resident at the home in question and advised him to stop creating a disturbance. The resident complied and Officers cleared the scene at this time. Throughout the night, officers had to respond to the residence on two more occasions, each time for the report of a loud disturbance. Fatal Accident in Hagerstown

Late Friday night, Hagerstown Barrack personnel responded to the scene of a serious personal injury collision located at Rt-64 west of Little Antietam Road. The investigation determined that a Black BMW passenger car, being driven by a Kevin Argueta a 22 year old male from Silver Spring, MD was traveling westbound on Rt-64 at a high rate of speed. City to mark 20th anniversary of 9/11 with parade, barbecue

The Cumberland community will help commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks by hosting a parade and community barbecue when Frank Siller, CEO of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, passes through today. Tunnel to Towers is a charitable organization founded by Siller in memory of his brother, Stephen, a New York firefighter killed in the one of the twin towers on 9/11. Maryland DOH Statement on Approval of Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 Vaccines for Immunocompromised individuals.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approved the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) amendment of the emergency use authorizations for the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines to allow specific individuals with compromised immune systems to receive a third additional vaccine dose.     “We welcome and fully support the CDC’s approval to administer a third dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine to immunocompromised Americans,” said Maryland Department of Health Secretary Dennis R. Allegany County COVID-19 Update

Due to the more highly contagious Delta variant, COVID-19 rates continue to increase in Allegany County and across Maryland, with nearly 96% of all hospitalizations and deaths occurring in unvaccinated individuals. As of August 12, 41.3% of Allegany County residents were fully vaccinated against COVID-19, compared to 59.9% of all Marylanders.  Health officials continue to urge unvaccinated members of the public to get their vaccine as soon as possible.
