Redman’s Club Damaged by Fire
Fire damaged the Redman’s Club in Westernport overnight. Units from Allegany, Garrett and Mineral Counties responded to the scene. Route 135 was shut down in the area for a few hours. No injuries were reported. The damage appears to be extensive. The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
Health Department Recommends Masking to Start Allegany County School Year
Officials with the Allegany County Health Department on Tuesday recommended that masking be required at the start of the school year in Allegany County, The board is expected to officially release its plan on Friday.

Allegany High School student, Peyton McDonald, has earned a spot on the 2021-2022 Maryland Center for School Safety's Student Focus Group. She was selected as one of only 25 Maryland students that applied. These student leaders will now follow in the footsteps of the twelve inaugural members of the group, whose one-year terms ended in June. National Night Out Set For 5 PM Today
National Night Out will be held this evening, with local events scheduled in South Cumberland, at Bel Air Elementary School, and at the Garrett County Fair in McHenry from 5 until 8 PM. We should have a better idea as to how Allegany County Public Schools will deal with COVID-19 issues when schools reopen after a meeting this afternoon at 3:00 at the central offices. Maryland COVID Cases Rise
The Maryland Department of Health has reported that the total hospitalizations in the state stands at 281, the highest level in two months. The seven-day positivity rate is at 3.23%, the highest in nearly three months. Ater three days of gains above 500, the number of new cases reported as of this morning is 447. No additional deaths were reported. Additionally, nearly 3000 people who had been vaccinated had tested positive for COVID-19.
