The Allegany County Board of Education is currently seeking applications for membership on its Ethics Panel. The Ethics Panel is a five-member body whose primary responsibility is to provide advisory opinions, to conduct hearings on ethics complaints, and to make recommendations to the Board of Education on matters relating to conflict of interest, financial disclosure, and lobbying disclosure. Police Serve Criminal Summons from Vehicle Theft

On Tuesday, June 29th, 2021, The Cumberland City Police served a Criminal Summons on Demond Arthur Scott Jr, 34, of Cumberland MD. The summons stemmed from an incident that occurred on June 25th, 2021 at a residence in the 300 block of Frederick St. During that incident it is alleged that Scott broke into a residence there before stealing a vehicle belonging to the resident. Garrett County Woman Arrested on CDS Charges

A Friendsville woman was arrested by Garrett County Sheriff's Deputies during a traffic stop on I-68 Tuesdya night. At approximately 10:00 p.m., deputies stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on eastbound I-68. The driver identified as Carrie Lee McCombie, 41, was arrested after the K-9 Unit returned a positive alert for controlled dangerous substance in the vehicle.  A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of methamphetamine, as well as Alprazolam with a street vlaue of $800, and paraphernalia.  A check of McCombie's driver's license confirmed that her license was revoked as well.  McCombie was transported to the…

Three Arrested After Traffic Stop Leads to CDS Discovery

On Tuesday morning, three people were arrested by the Garrett County Sheriff's Office of Narcotics Division during a traffic stop near Oakland. Narcotics division deputies stopped a vehicle for traffic violations of Paul Friend Road at approximately 10:30 a.m. The K-9 Unit responded and returned a positive alert for controlled dangerous substances. A serach of the vehicle led to the recovery of heroin, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.  The driver, Ralph Thomas Lloyd, 42 of Kitzmiller, was arrested and charged with driving on a suspended license.  A passener identified as Taylor Renea Perry, 26 of Oakland, was charged with possession of…

Woman Arrested After Stabbing Incident

On Tuesday night at approximately 10:30 p.m., deputies of The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office responded to a LaVale business for a report of a female that had stabbed someone. Deputies arrived and determined that Theresa Jean Roy, 37 years old of LaVale, had stabbed a male at a private residence in the LaVale area. Roy then fled that residence and went to a business where they called 911.   The male was located and transported to the hospital for serious but apparently non-life-threatening injuries. State School Superintendent Retirement Begins Tomorrow

Today marks the final day on the job for Maryland State Superintendent of Schools Karen Salmon. Salmon is retiring after four years heading the state’s public school system.  Clearly her biggest challenge came in the past year as the system maneuvered through the COVID-19 pandemic with most schools shutting down for months at a time- leaving a hybrid mix of distance learning and in person instruction.
