Commissioners to Hear WMSR Budget Request Today

Over the course of the next two weeks the Allegany County Commissioners will hear budget presentations from a number of agencies as work on the 2022 FY fiscal picture begins in earnest. Just Four New COVID Cases Reported

The Allegany County Health Department reports that 15,185 Allegany County residents have received their first dose of a two-dose vaccine against COVID-19 (21.6% of the population), with 9,381 of those individuals now fully vaccinated with their second dose (13.3% of the population).  Additionally, 489 Allegany County residents have received the single dose Janssen vaccine (0.7%).   By comparison, the state reported that 24.6% of all Marylanders had received their first dose of a two-dose vaccine, with 12.5% having had both doses and an additional 1.0% vaccinated with the single dose vaccine.   On Tuesday, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced that…

Attorney General Applauds Lawsuit Challenging Trump Administration’s Food Assistance Cuts

Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh today applauded the federal Court of Appeals dismissal of an appeal of a decision striking down the Trump Administration’s attempt to revoke food assistance for approximately 700,000 Americans.  In January 2020, Attorney General Frosh joined a multistate coalition in suing the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to challenge a new rule that would have severely limited states’ flexibility to provide food assistance to individuals struggling to find work.  Siding with the coalition, Chief Judge Beryl Howell of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia temporarily halted parts of the rule in…

Westernport Fire Remains Under Investigation

The Fire Marshal’s Office reports the cause of a fire that damaged a Westernport residence, a wooden shed and travel trailer Tuesday afternoon remains under investigation by state fire investigators. The fire at 21404 Creek Side Drive, owned by Deloris Ann Striker, caused about $5,000 damage, the Office of the State Fire Marshal said in a Wednesday news release. Investigators said the fire started in the rear of the residence. About 30 firefighters from Potomac Fire Company and mutual aid companies needed 20 minutes to control the blaze after responding just after 4 p.m. The American Red Cross was assisting…

The Medicine Shoppe of Fort Ashby is sponsoring a COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic on Thursday, March 25th, from 8am -12noon. It will be held at The Wheelhouse Academy, 300 Technology Way, at the Fort Ashby Industrial Park. The Johnson & Johnson one dose COVID-19 vaccine will be given. UPMC Western Maryland to hold vaccine clinic registration

In order to continue to facilitate vaccination efforts in Allegany County and to better serve the community, UPMC Western Maryland is pleased to once again hold telephone registration for county residents for upcoming COVID-19 vaccination clinics to be held in the hospital auditorium.     All Allegany County residents age 60 and older who live in or work in Allegany County are encouraged to call in to register. The State of Maryland is reporting 51,434 vaccinations over the past 24 hours, our highest Tuesday on record. Maryland providers have administered a total of 2,304,408 doses and are averaging 44,553 shots per day. 

Snyder to buy out other Washington owners, pending approval

Dan Snyder is buying out the Washington Football Team’s minority owners and will become the sole owner of the club. An NFL spokesman on Wednesday confirmed that Snyder’s application for a debt waiver of $450 million was approved by the finance committee and that the deal is pending approval from team owners. Westernport Man Arrested on CDS Charges in Barton

On Tuesday March 23, 2021 at approximately 7:30 PM deputies of the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in the area of Barton on Route 36. A positive K9 scan by Sheriff’s Office K9 Suma lead to a search of the vehicle in which a quantity of Schedule III CDS was located. Subsequently, 26 year old Anthony Wayne Amoruso of Westernport was arrested and charged with one count of Possession of CDS Not Marijuana. He was detained at the Allegany County Detention Center to await an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
